Host Lineage: Parvibaculum lavamentivorans; Parvibaculum; Rhodobiaceae; Rhizobiales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria
General Information: An aerobic, non-motile, Gram-negative, short rod. It is motile when growing with acetate, octane or in complex medium. It is able to metabolize a wide range of anionic and non-ionic surfactants and utilizes all representatives of the two major classes of surfactants used in laundry products in Germany, anionics and non-ionics. The epithet "lavamentivorans" stands for "consuming (chemicals) used for washing". Parvibaculum lavamentivorns is able to degrade linear alkylbenzenesulfonate and other surfactants making this organism useful in industrial and bioremediation applications.
