This organims is an efficient degrader of C5-C36 alkanes. This property makes it a good microorganism for further development towards a bioremediation tool for oil pollution in marine enviroment.

General Information: This bacterium, formerly Enterobacter sakazakii, is associated with infant septicemia, meningitis, and necrotizing enterocolitis. Originally isolated from powdered formula, it has also been shown to compartmentalize cerebral ventricles and cause brain abcesses in neonates. This species produces a yellow pigment when grown at 30 degrees C, but this fades at 37 degrees C.
