This organism is both thermophilic and acidophilic and produces heat and acid stable enzymes, such as amylase and esterase, which may be important in industry.

General Information: Acidophilic archaeon. This organism is an obligate aerobic, hyperthermophilic, acidophilic, sulfur-metabolizing archaeon. This organism was isolated from Beppu Hot Springs in the geothermal area of Kyushu Island, Japan. Growth occurs optimally at 80°C and pH 2.5-3.
