Query: NC_017057:142000 Rickettsia prowazekii str. RpGvF24 chromosome, complete genome

Lineage: Rickettsia prowazekii; Rickettsia; Rickettsiaceae; Rickettsiales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria

General Information: This species is the causal agent of typhus. The bacteria are transmitted via an insect, usually a tick, to a host organism, in this case humans, where they target endothelial cells and sometimes macrophages. They attach via an adhesin, rickettsial outer membrane protein A, and are internalized where they persist as cytoplasmically free organisms. Transovarial transmission (from mother to offspring) occurs in the invertebrate host.

Subject: NC_008255:3578883 Cytophaga hutchinsonii ATCC 33406, complete genome

Lineage: Cytophaga hutchinsonii; Cytophaga; Cytophagaceae; Cytophagales; Bacteroidetes; Bacteria

General Information: This organism is abundantly found in soil, freshwater, and marine habitats and it is motile by a gliding motility system that does not utilize flagella. Degradation of various recalcitrant organic macromolecules such as chitin, pectin, and cellulose is a hallmark of this organism.
