General Information: Isolated from a sample harvested below the surface of a calcarenite stone from a crumbling wall in Cagliari, Sardinia. Aerobic, chemoorganotrophic, Gram-positive bacterium with a strongly pigmented rudimentary mycelium. It has been isolated from calcarenite walls in Sardinia.

General Information: This organism produces bacteriochlorophyll a and c under oxic conditions and represents a new group of photosynthetic bacteria. Naturally inhabits microbial mats of alkaline siliceous hot springs in Yellowstone National Park.
