General Information: This bacterium can cause spontaneous infectious spondylodiscitis (SIS), an uncommon cause of low back pain in adults, but most commonly described in children. This species can be differentiated from Klebsiella pneumoniae by its inability to produce indole from tryptophan.

General Information: Burkholderia cenocepacia MC0-3 was isolated from soil associated with maize roots. This species (genomovar III) is part of the Burkholderia cepacia complex, which consists of 9 closely related species, also known as genomovars. These organisms are commonly found in soil and all are opportunistic pathogens espcially in cystic fibrosis patients.
