General Information: Methanosarcina barkeri strain Fusaro was isolated from mud samples taken from the freshwater lake, Lago del Fusaro near Naples, Italy. This organism is a strictly anaerobic, non-motile, methane-producing archaeon and has been found in marine mud, rumens of ungulates, lagoons polluted with animal waste and sludge from anaerobic sewage digestors.
