General Information: This bacterium causes the economically important leaf scald disease in sugar cane. Xanthomonas albilineans produces a potent toxin, albicidin, which is responsible for the characteristic whitening of sugar cane leaves and stunted plant growth.

General Information: This bacterium, formerly Enterobacter sakazakii, is associated with infant septicemia, meningitis, and necrotizing enterocolitis. Originally isolated from powdered formula, it has also been shown to compartmentalize cerebral ventricles and cause brain abcesses in neonates. This species produces a yellow pigment when grown at 30 degrees C, but this fades at 37 degrees C.
