General Information: Thermococcus sibiricus is a hyperthermophilic anaerobic archaeon isolated from a well of the never flooded oil-bearing Jurassic horizon of the high-temperature Samotlor oil reservoir (Western Siberia). The organism is indigenous to the reservoir and survived over geologic time by metabolizing buried organic matter from the original oceanic sediment.

This organism is a strictly anaerobic, hyperthermophilic archaeon. Growth occurs at temperatures between 67 and 103 degrees C, with optimal growth at 100 degrees C and a pH of 7.0. This organism is highly motile due to a bundle of flagella.
