Query: NC_012796:3374911 Desulfovibrio magneticus RS-1, complete genome Lineage: Desulfovibrio magneticus; Desulfovibrio; Desulfovibrionaceae; Desulfovibrionales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria General Information: Isolated from freshwater sulfide-rich mud of a waterway near Kameno river, Wakayama, in Japan. This organism is a sulfate-reducing delta proteobacterium which synthesizes intracellular magnetite particles. Desulfovibrio magneticus produces irregular, membrane-bound magnetite particles, unlike other magnetite-producing bacteria which contain crystalline magnetite in the cytoplasm. Desulfovibrio magneticus does not migrate along a magnetic field but swims randomly.

General Information: Leptothrix cholodnii SP-6 was isolated from water and flocculent from an artificial iron seep in Ithaca, NY, USA. Leptothrix cholodnii, like other Leptothrix species is an iron- and manganese-oxidizing, sheathed bacterium common in organic rich aquatic environments. Iron oxides and manganese oxides often coat the sheathes of these organisms.
