General Information: This organism, much like other Rhizobia, forms a symbiotic relationship with a leguminous plant, such as soybean, cowpea or pigeon pea. Expression of nodulation genes results in production of a nodulation signal which the plant cell recognizes inducing root nodule formation. The plant cell provides carbon compounds for the bacterium to grow on.

General Information: This organism was originally isolated from soil from Texas, USA. Iron- and sulfur-oxidizing bacterium. This organism was isolated from a biofilm obtained from a municipal wastewater treatment facility. It has subsequently been found in soil, mud, both freshwater and marine sediment, and industrial wastewater. It is a member of the beta proteobacteria and an obligate chemolithoautotroph.
