Query: NC_010465:3465351 Yersinia pseudotuberculosis YPIII, complete genome Lineage: Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; Yersinia; Enterobacteriaceae; Enterobacteriales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria General Information: Environmental bacterium that causes gastrointestinal disease. This organism was first isolated in 1883 by Malassez and Vignal and is termed pseudotuberculosis since it causes lesions in the lung that are similar to those observed during tuberculosis infection. It is ubiquitous in the environment and is a food and waterborne pathogen that affects animals as well as humans by causing gastroenteritis like Yersinia enterocolitica.

General Information: This organism is able to reduce uranium and may be useful for in situ bioremediation of uranium. An iron(III)-reducing bacterium isolated from the uranium-contaminated subsurface of the U.S. Department of Energy NABIR Field Research Center (FRC), Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA. Several recent studies have verified using cultivation-independent methods that the Geobacteraceae are predominant in subsurface environments where dissimilatory metal reduction is important to the remediation of uranium and other contaminants.
