General Information: Thermoanaerobacter ethanolicus was isolated from a hot spring microbial mat in Yellowstone National Park. It is a thermophilic anaerobic bacterium, which ferments a wide range of hexose and pentose sugars, as well as starch and pullulan, to ethanol.

Alkalilimnicola ehrlichei is capable of growth with arsenite [As(III)] as the electron donor with nitrate as electron acceptor. It may be responsible for production of arsenate [As(V)] in anoxic lake bottom.
