Query: NC_010084:1054000 Burkholderia multivorans ATCC 17616 chromosome 1, complete Lineage: Burkholderia multivorans; Burkholderia; Burkholderiaceae; Burkholderiales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria General Information: Associated with infections in cystic fibrosis patients. This species is associated with infections in cystic fibrosis patients. It is an important opportunistic pathogen, colonizing the lungs and associated with a decrease in long-term survival. A minority of patients with this infection may also develop "cepacia syndrome", which leads to an acute clinical decline which is frequently fatal. This species is a member of the Burkholderia cepacia complex, although it does not appear to spread from patient to patient as do the other members of the group.

General Information: Temp: Mesophile; Habitat: Soil. Variovorax paradoxus S110 is able to grow autotrophically using hydrogen gas and carbon dioxide for energy and carbon. Variovorax paradoxus is a nutritionally diverse organism which is commonly isolated from soil. Strains of this organism are able to degrade a number of compounds such as explosives and pesticides. Variovorax paradoxus is also a plant-growth promoting organism, increasing the resistance of the plant to disease and heavy metals.
