Query: NC_009486:1403175 Thermotoga petrophila RKU-1 chromosome, complete genome

Lineage: Thermotoga petrophila; Thermotoga; Thermotogaceae; Thermotogales; Thermotogae; Bacteria

General Information: Thermotoga petrophila strain RKU-1 is an anaerobic thermophile, isolated from the production waters of the Kubiki oil reservoir in Niigata, Japan. This organism, a member of the Thermotogales, has the characteristic morphology of one or more cells contained in a sheath-like envelope which extends beyond the cell wall. Preliminary sequencing of Thermotogales genomes has identified extensive horizontal gene transfer between these organisms and the Archaea.

Subject: NC_015697:1814128 Lactobacillus reuteri SD2112 chromosome, complete genome

Lineage: Lactobacillus reuteri; Lactobacillus; Lactobacillaceae; Lactobacillales; Firmicutes; Bacteria

General Information: Lactobacillus reuteri is a member of the normal microbial community of the gut in humans and animals. This organism produces antibiotic compounds, such as reutericin and reuterin, which have inhibitory effects on pathogenic microorganisms. In addition, Lactobacillus reuteri is commonly used as a probiotic to maintain the balance of the gut microbial flora and stimulate the intestinal immune system.
