Query: NC_009464:2288500 Uncultured methanogenic archaeon RC-I, complete genome Lineage: Methanocella arvoryzae; Methanocella; Methanocellaceae; Methanocellales; Euryarchaeota; Archaea General Information: This organism is a key methane producer in the rhizome of rice. A large portion of the methane that is emitted in rice fields is produced by methanogenic archaea. Rice Cluster I (RC-I) methanogens in the rice rhizosphere play a key role in this methane production.

General Information: Methanogen present in marine and freshwater sediments. Methanoculleus marisnigri was first isolated from sediment from the Black Sea, but has also been identified in freshwater sediments. This organism can use hydrogen, formate, and secondary alcohols, such as propanol and butanol, for methanogenesis.
