Query: NC_009338:5161886 Mycobacterium gilvum PYR-GCK chromosome, complete genome

Lineage: Mycobacterium gilvum; Mycobacterium; Mycobacteriaceae; Actinomycetales; Actinobacteria; Bacteria

General Information: This genus comprises a number of Gram-positive, acid-fast, rod-shaped aerobic bacteria and is the only member of the family Mycobacteriaceae within the order Actinomycetales. Like other closely related Actinomycetales, such as Nocardia and Corynebacterium, mycobacteria have unusually high genomic DNA GC content and are capable of producing mycolic acids as major components of their cell wall. These organism are common in soil and freshwater. Mycobacterium gilvum PYR-GCK was isolated from river sediment, Grand Calumet River in Northwestern Indiana, USA.

Subject: NC_020133:1443934 Mycobacterium liflandii 128FXT, complete genome

Lineage: Mycobacterium liflandii; Mycobacterium; Mycobacteriaceae; Actinomycetales; Actinobacteria; Bacteria

General Information: First isolated from a colony of African clawed frogs. This organism causes a fatal systemic disease in frogs often characterized by skin lesions. Mycobacterium liflandii produces a polyketide toxin mycolactone E and two highly antigenic proteins ESAT-6 and CFP-10 which account, in part, for its pathogenicity.
