Juvenile earthworms are colonized during embryonic development within the egg capsule, and failing this are not likely to acquire the symbiont by association with colonized adults or their bedding.

This organims is an efficient degrader of C5-C36 alkanes. This property makes it a good microorganism for further development towards a bioremediation tool for oil pollution in marine enviroment.
