Query: NC_008705:1537080 Mycobacterium sp. KMS, complete genome Lineage: Mycobacterium; Mycobacterium; Mycobacteriaceae; Actinomycetales; Actinobacteria; Bacteria General Information: This organism was isolated from creosote-contaminated soil from the Champion International Superfund site in Libby, Montana, USA. This microbe, along with some others collected at this site, are able to rapidly mineralize 14C-labeled pyrene. Phylogenetic studies based on the rRNA 16S gene confirmed that strains collected at this site were distinct from one another and also from other known Mycobacterium isolates.

General Information: Isolation: Soil; Temp: Mesophile; Temp: 26 - 30C; Habitat: Soil. Starkeya novella is a non-motile soil bacterium that belongs to the facultatively heterotrophic microbes. It is able to grow heterotrophically on a variety of single-carbon compounds, sugar alcohols, amino acids, carboxylic acids, and fatty acids. In addition, it is able to grow chemolithoautotrophically using a variety of inorganic and organic sulfur compounds such as thiosulfate, tetrathionate, dimethylsulfide (DMS), and dimethylsulfoxide.
