General Information: This strain was isolated from an arsenate treated wood pier that was in a brackish estuary (Eel Pond) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. It is capable of converting As(V) to arsenite and may be used in bioremediation of contaminated sites.

This organism is notable for its ability to reduce selenate to selenite and further to insoluble elemental selenium, in a process called dissimilatory selenate reduction.
