Causes an infectious mononucleosis-like disease. Like other Ehrlichia, this organism is an obligate intracellular pathogen. It can be transmitted from fish flukes (trematodes) to humans, and was one of the first Ehrlichia that was found to cause a human-specific illness.

General Information: This aerobic anoxygenic phototroph was isolated from cultivated marine dinoflagellates originally from the Bay of Tokyo, Japan. Liquid cultures grown in the dark are distinctly pink, while colonies on complex agar media are dark red.
