General Information: It is a nitrogen-fixing symbiotic bacteria that interacts with the root of the common bean plant Phaseolus vulgaris. P. etli and its relation to other nitrogen/fixing symbionts has been well studied. General Information: This organism was first described in 1953 in Japan as causing Sennetsu fever. Causes an infectious mononucleosis-like disease. Like other Ehrlichia, this organism is an obligate intracellular pathogen. It can be transmitted from fish flukes (trematodes) to humans, and was one of the first Ehrlichia that was found to cause a human-specific illness.
