General Information: This organism was first isolated from cat fleas. It is an obligate intracellular pathogen and is transmitted transovarially in fleas. It is found associated with some human illnesses, and belongs to the spotted-fever group of Rickettsia.

General Information: Capnocytophaga ochracea DSM 7271 was isolated from the human oral cavity. This organism causes periodontal disease and can also be an opportunistic pathogens, causing septicemia, peritonitis, endocarditis and conjunctivitis in susceptible patients. These are Gram-negative, anaerobic gliding bacteria isolated from normal human supragingival plaque and from periodontal lesions.
