Query: NC_006361:2534192 Nocardia farcinica IFM 10152, complete genome Lineage: Nocardia farcinica; Nocardia; Nocardiaceae; Actinomycetales; Actinobacteria; Bacteria General Information: This type strain was isolated from the bronchus of a male Japanese patient. Opportunistic human pathogen. This genus was originally described from specimens isolated by plating soil suspensions on diagnostic sensitivity test plates augmented with antifungal agents. Organisms in this genus cause opportunistic human pulmonary and systemic nocardiosis. This can complicate existing debilitating conditions such as leukemia, lymphoma, or other neoplasms, or illnesses in patients with compromised immune systems.

General Information: Social gliding soil bacterium. Stigmatella aurantica, commonly isolated from rotting wood and bark, is a member of a group of organisms called myxobacteria. These organisms have a complex development and differentiation life cycle. When cell density increases, the organism switches to "social motility" where aggregates of cells can gather together into masses termed fruiting bodies that may consist of up to 100,000 cells. Stigmatella aurantica produces a number of compounds, such as aurafuron A and stigmatellin, which may be important as anti-cancer agents.
