General Information: This strain was isolated from the axilla of a bone marrow transplant patient. A serious nocosomial pathogen. This bacterium is a lipophilic and multidrug resistant member of the human skin flora. This species has been associated with bacterial endocarditis following cardiac surgery. Other nocosomial infections involving this organism are associated with immunocompromised patients with malignancies, in-place medical devices, breaks in the skin barrier, and therapy with broad-spectrum antibiotics.
