Query: NC_000914:135534 Rhizobium sp. NGR234 plasmid pNGR234a, complete sequence

Lineage: Sinorhizobium fredii; Sinorhizobium; Rhizobiaceae; Rhizobiales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria

General Information: Sinorhizobium fredii NGR234 NGR234 is unusual in that it is able to form nodules on the roots of more than 112 plants. This organism, much like other Rhizobia, forms a symbiotic relationship with a leguminous plant, such as soybean, cowpea or pigeon pea. Expression of nodulation genes results in production of a nodulation signal which the plant cell recognizes inducing root nodule formation. The plant cell provides carbon compounds for the bacterium to grow on.
