Query: AC_000091:2976293 Escherichia coli W3110 DNA, complete genome

Lineage: Escherichia coli; Escherichia; Enterobacteriaceae; Enterobacteriales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria

General Information: This organism was named for its discoverer, Theodore Escherich, and is one of the premier model organisms used in the study of bacterial genetics, physiology, and biochemistry. This enteric organism is typically present in the lower intestine of humans, where it is the dominant facultative anaerobe present, but it is only one minor constituent of the complete intestinal microflora. E. coli, is capable of causing various diseases in its host, especially when they acquire virulence traits. E. coli can cause urinary tract infections, neonatal meningitis, and many different intestinal diseases, usually by attaching to the host cell and introducing toxins that disrupt normal cellular processes.

Subject: NC_014107:171170 Enterobacter cloacae subsp. cloacae ATCC 13047 plasmid pECL_A,

Lineage: Enterobacter cloacae; Enterobacter; Enterobacteriaceae; Enterobacteriales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria

General Information: Enterobacter species are found in natural environments such as water, sewage, soil, and vegetables; some species are found in human and animal species. Enterobacter cloacae is a prevalent nosocomial pathogen as it is highly resistant to disinfectants and antimicrobial agents. E.cloacae subsp. cloacae strain ATCC 13047 was isolated from human cerebrospinal fluid in 1890 and is the type strain. These "ICU bugs" cause significant morbidity and mortality, and infection management is complicated by multiple antibiotic resistance. These bacteria possess inducible beta-lactamases, which are undetectable in vitro but are also responsible for resistance during treatment.
