This species produces a yellow pigment when grown at 30 degrees C, but this fades at 37 degrees C.

Dickeya dadantii formerly (Erwinia chrysanthemi) is a phytopathogenic bacterium that causes soft rot diseases on many crops. This organism produces pectinolytic enzymes which break down plant cell walls allowing for the spread of disease.
