Utilizes a diverse array of different carbon sources, including hydrolyzed starch and gelatin. Capable of fixing carbon and nitrogen. Isolated from food wastewater in Nagano, Japan.

General Information: Isolated from soil at an explosives testing facility. Can transform hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX), a cyclic nitramine explosive. Many military ranges in the United States and Canada are contaminated with explosive and propellant residues. Of the nitroaromatic and nitramine explosives that exist on these sites, hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) has a low sorption capacity and can migrate through soil into surface water and groundwater.
