General Information: Mycoplasma fermentans has been isolated from the respiratory and urogenital tract, primarily from immunocompromised patients and may be a factor in the progression of HIV infection to AIDS. General Information: This organism was isolated from the sea floor of a solfataric (volcanic area that gives off gas) environment with temperatures up to 112 degrees C at a depth of 9 m, off the shore of Sao Miguel Island, Azores. Hyperthermophilic sulfur-reducing archaeon. This bacterium is an extreme hyperthermophilic, anaerobic, sulfur-reducing archaeon. Grows optimally at 95-106 degress C, with a NaCl concentration of 17 g/l and a pH of 7.0.
