The organism is indigenous to the reservoir and survived over geologic time by metabolizing buried organic matter from the original oceanic sediment.

General Information: This organism was collected from the chimney wall of a Mid-Atlantic hydrothermal vent known as "Snakebite", at a depth of 3550 m. It was isolated under in situ pressure. True barophilic and hyperthermophilic archaeon strain.
