Query: NC_012520:1 Rhodococcus opacus B4 plasmid pROB01, complete sequence Lineage: Rhodococcus opacus; Rhodococcus; Nocardiaceae; Actinomycetales; Actinobacteria; Bacteria General Information: Strain B4 was isolated from a soil sample taken from the roadside in Hiroshima, Japan. It is a benzene-tolerant, Gram-postitive, non-motile, strictly aerobic rod, able to use many organic compound as its sole source of carbon and energy. Rhodococcus opacus is an aerobic, Gram-positive bacterium that can accumulate triacylglycerols (TAGs).

General Information: Isolated from soil at an explosives testing facility. Can transform hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX), a cyclic nitramine explosive. Many military ranges in the United States and Canada are contaminated with explosive and propellant residues. Of the nitroaromatic and nitramine explosives that exist on these sites, hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) has a low sorption capacity and can migrate through soil into surface water and groundwater.
