General Information: Thermoanaerobacter ethanolicus was isolated from a hot spring microbial mat in Yellowstone National Park. It is a thermophilic anaerobic bacterium, which ferments a wide range of hexose and pentose sugars, as well as starch and pullulan, to ethanol.

It can colonize plants in a non-pathogenic state and can rapidly take advantage of changing environmental conditions to induce disease in susceptible plants by shifting gene expression patterns.
