It can form nodules on the legume Aeschynomene indica and was isolated from this plant at the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research in Ithaca, NY. It can form stem and root nodules. The photosynthetic reaction centers are similar to those found in purple photosynthetic bacteria and this microbe aids the plant in carbon metabolism and nitrogen metabolism.

General Information: Burkholderia cenocepacia MC0-3 was isolated from soil associated with maize roots. This species (genomovar III) is part of the Burkholderia cepacia complex, which consists of 9 closely related species, also known as genomovars. These organisms are commonly found in soil and all are opportunistic pathogens espcially in cystic fibrosis patients.
