Query: NC_009338:5052000 Mycobacterium gilvum PYR-GCK chromosome, complete genome

Lineage: Mycobacterium gilvum; Mycobacterium; Mycobacteriaceae; Actinomycetales; Actinobacteria; Bacteria

General Information: This genus comprises a number of Gram-positive, acid-fast, rod-shaped aerobic bacteria and is the only member of the family Mycobacteriaceae within the order Actinomycetales. Like other closely related Actinomycetales, such as Nocardia and Corynebacterium, mycobacteria have unusually high genomic DNA GC content and are capable of producing mycolic acids as major components of their cell wall. These organism are common in soil and freshwater. Mycobacterium gilvum PYR-GCK was isolated from river sediment, Grand Calumet River in Northwestern Indiana, USA.

Subject: NC_018581:1180951 Gordonia sp. KTR9 chromosome, complete genome

Lineage: Gordonia; Gordonia; Gordoniaceae; Actinomycetales; Actinobacteria; Bacteria

General Information: Isolated from soil at an explosives testing facility. Can transform hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX), a cyclic nitramine explosive. Many military ranges in the United States and Canada are contaminated with explosive and propellant residues. Of the nitroaromatic and nitramine explosives that exist on these sites, hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) has a low sorption capacity and can migrate through soil into surface water and groundwater.
