Query: NC_007759:723675 Syntrophus aciditrophicus SB, complete genome Lineage: Syntrophus aciditrophicus; Syntrophus; Syntrophaceae; Syntrophobacterales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria General Information: Syntrophus aciditrophicus SB was isolated from sludge from a sewage treatment plant in Norman, Oklahoma, USA. Syntrophic benzoate-oxidizing bacterium. Syntrophus aciditrophicus is able to ferment benzoate when grown in co-culture with hydrogen-consuming methanogens (syntrophic metabolism).

General Information: This organism is a benign saccharolytic and proteolytic soil bacterium capable of producing a number of organic solvents (solventogenic bacterium) through fermentation of various organic compounds. The first strains of C. acetobutyricum were isolated by Chaim Weizman during the World War I and used to develop industrial starch-based acetone, butanol and ethanol fermentation processes.
