Query: NC_007519:2773000 Desulfovibrio alaskensis G20 chromosome, complete genome Lineage: Desulfovibrio alaskensis; Desulfovibrio; Desulfovibrionaceae; Desulfovibrionales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria General Information: This organism is a spontaneous nalidixic acid-resistant derivative of a wild-type strain (G100A) that was isolated from an oil well corrosion site. It has been cured of a 2.3 Kb cryptic plasmid as well. This organism is one of the few extensively studied sulfate-reducing bacteria.

General Information: It is a nitrogen-fixing symbiotic bacteria that interacts with the root of the common bean plant Phaseolus vulgaris. P. etli and its relation to other nitrogen/fixing symbionts has been well studied. The genomic sequence will provide information on the process of symbiosis, on the genetic systems that allow the survival and adaptations of this bacteria to the soil, and on the evolutionary relationship and the symbiosis origin of this organism.
