Query: NC_007519:1244198 Desulfovibrio alaskensis G20 chromosome, complete genome Lineage: Desulfovibrio alaskensis; Desulfovibrio; Desulfovibrionaceae; Desulfovibrionales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria General Information: This organism is a spontaneous nalidixic acid-resistant derivative of a wild-type strain (G100A) that was isolated from an oil well corrosion site. It has been cured of a 2.3 Kb cryptic plasmid as well. This organism is one of the few extensively studied sulfate-reducing bacteria.

General Information: Isolated from freshwater sulfide-rich mud of a waterway near Kameno river, Wakayama, in Japan. This organism is a sulfate-reducing delta proteobacterium which synthesizes intracellular magnetite particles. Desulfovibrio magneticus produces irregular, membrane-bound magnetite particles, unlike other magnetite-producing bacteria which contain crystalline magnetite in the cytoplasm. Desulfovibrio magneticus does not migrate along a magnetic field but swims randomly.
