In addition this organism can cause bacteremia and septicemia in immunocompromised individuals. The bacterium is found in a variety of habitats including water environments, and seagulls are considered a reservoir for the organism. Shellfish can harbor the organism when inhabiting water contaminated by seagulls carrying the organism.
