Query: NC_006513:2708213 Azoarcus sp. EbN1, complete genome Lineage: Aromatoleum aromaticum; Aromatoleum; Rhodocyclaceae; Rhodocyclales; Proteobacteria; Bacteria General Information: First isolated from sediment contaminated with ethylbenzene, this organism is capable of growing on crude oil, using polar aromatic compounds such as benzoate under both oxic and anoxic conditions. It is currently being evaluated for use in aromatic hydrocarbon bioremediation projects. Aromatic hydrocarbon-degrading bacterium. Capable of metabolizing various aromatic hydrocarbons, including toluene and ethylbenzene and may be of use in bioremediation.

General Information: This organism was originally isolated from soil from Texas, USA. Iron- and sulfur-oxidizing bacterium. This organism was isolated from a biofilm obtained from a municipal wastewater treatment facility. It has subsequently been found in soil, mud, both freshwater and marine sediment, and industrial wastewater. It is a member of the beta proteobacteria and an obligate chemolithoautotroph.
