Brachyspira pilosicoli is an anaerobic spirochete that colonizes the large intestine of various species of birds and animals and humans. It attaches to colonic enterocytes in a condition called 'intestinal spirochetosis', characterized by mild colitis, diarrhea and reduced growth.
