The species epithet is derived from slithy, a nonsense word from Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky for a fictional organism that is 'slithy' and the Latin word 'suffix' meaning '-like, in the shape of', yielding the Neo-Latin word 'slithyformis' meaning 'slithy in form'.
